Weekend update

Hello and happy Monday! How was your weekend?

Ours got off to an inauspicious start here when Hayden came down very sick on Friday night. He slept terribly and was a complete write-off on Saturday – thankfully, we had a friend over for Amelie on Saturday morning, and after lunch she took off to another friend’s house for a couple of hours, so I was able to help Hayden out a little bit and she wasn’t too grumpy or bored hanging around home. When I say thankfully, I don’t think I can properly convey how very grateful I was for that because Amelie’s behaviour was, to put it simply, not the norm for her! I don’t know what was going on with her but she was…a challenge, shall we say. All weekend long.

As a result, I didn’t take a single photo this weekend! Nothing in there I really want to remember too much. Happily, Hayden was back to his normal bulletproof self on Sunday (it is very rare that he gets sick, so it’s always a shock for everyone when he is) and we were able to head down to Auckland for the day as planned. We caught up with some friends over brunch, then got in a spot of essential shopping before heading back up to the country to finish off the day in the spa as the sun set.

I do have some photos of Friday – when we had the most stunning morning and I got to start my day in the best possible way by squeezing in a beach walk before work – and of Monday – when I got to catch up with my best friend over lunch!

It’s not often work days are better than the weekend, but this one is that rare exception. All the same, I’m so glad that Hayden got better so quickly, that Amelie seems to have come out of her funk now, that we got to see our friends, that I had a couple of lovely peaceful nights reading on the sofa with a glass of wine after everyone else was in bed, and that I got to bookend it with such a good Friday and Monday. So many silver linings!

Hoping you had a happy weekend. Here are a bunch of photos of a good Friday and Monday, and none at all of the weekend…enjoy!

Kayakers at the beach.
Sailing! There were so many boats heading out this morning.
The calm before the family storm, haha. I sat on a rock and soaked up the sun for a while and it was bliss.
A monster storm/king tide situation carved up the beach a few weeks ago, and washed up some massive shells! Hand for scale.
I stopped on the way home for coffee at The Cakery – this super-cute little shop in Mangawhai Village. They do great coffee and phenomenal treats.
Ladies lunching, haha. This is my bestie who lives in Alabama – my lunchtime is just before her dinner and it’s a great time for us to catch up!
