Five things in May

Oh it was a good month! I usually go back through my photos to jog my memory about what has happened over the last month and what stood out, and I had so many great memories of May! I couldn’t fit them all in (I suppose I could have extended the post – five things is merely an arbitrary number, made up by me – but at the same time it’s nice to limit it to the top five!) but I do feel like we truly made the most of our first full month living in Auckland. We are really feeling at home here, but we also still really appreciate how great it is to be living here! Without further ado, here are some highlights of a great month…

1. Dressing up…in a building site

I love this dress so much. I had had my eye on it for ages, and I finally bought it for myself after I had been offered, and accepted, a new job that sees me going into an office at least a couple of times a week – I’ve got stuff to dress up for again! And, after a lot of renovations and therefore, a lot of days where we’ve spent the day schlepping around in old, paint-stained clothes, it feels really good to have the opportunity and the need to make myself look good and go out places. As you can see, we are still very much renovating (although calling it a building site may be a bit of an exaggeration) but that doesn’t mean there aren’t times to dress up…and I love it!

2. A sneak peek to keep us all going

Speaking of renovations…it’s really time for another update post! Until that comes though, accept this sneak peek of our new desk area (it’s not quite complete, but close!) and a sneaky photo crasher. Although, that said, Amelie took this photo and I’m pretty sure she was more interested in the cat than anything else…but the background makes for a good sneak peek, in my opinion!

3. S’mores on an autumn day

The ‘recipe’ for these s’mores, using Nutella, was in Amelie’s Barbie magazine and she pestered us for weeks about making them. We staved her off by agreeing that we’d make them next time we were in the country, and then we did just that the first time we returned for the weekend after we’d moved back down! They were delicious, I must say. And how delightful are s’mores on a sunny autumn day?!

4. Post-school patisserie

More sugar! We have a patisserie in our local high street, and as a keen fan of French sweet treats, I was really looking forward to taking Amelie along one day for a special occasion. I decided Hayden being away for the night was just such an occasion. 😉 She chose a meringue and we also shared a religieuse and an Orangina. Just like being in France…or at least, just like being in my French class when we were occasionally treated to pastries from this patisserie!

5. Queer Eye is back!

The ultimate feel-good television, in my opinion! I will never tire of seeing the Fab Five give deserving people ‘more than a makeover’. I was so happy when I saw a new season was coming out in May!
