Last weekend we flew down to Queenstown for a few days! This break was booked a few months ago when Air NZ was having a great sale, and I thought we’d love a few days away in August. I was also hoping Amelie might see her first snow!
She did – but from a distance – my initial idea that we’d spend a day in Cardrona and let Hayden get some snowboarding in while she and I tobogganed and drank hot chocolate just ended up not working with our timing. She did get to experience a few flurries but none of it stuck, but it was so beautiful!
Queenstown (all of Central Otago actually) is just so beautiful generally, of course. We had such a lovely time, going up the gondola (‘gobbler’ according to Amelie), eating ice cream by the lake despite the cold, visiting Arrowtown, choosing a new book from the bookstore and warming up by the fire in the Lodge Bar. As I was hoping, it turned out to be a brilliant way to break up the monotony of August and enjoy a family weekend doing something a little different. Next time, hopefully we’ll get some skiing in, but even without it, it was rather magical!
